National Council of Zongo Youth Chiefs Rally Support for President Mahama’s National General Cleaning Days

Accra, Ghana – July 9, 2026 – The National Council of Zongo Youth Chiefs has pledged its full support for President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of July 10 and 11, 2026 as National General Cleaning Days, calling on Zongo communities across the country to actively participate in the nationwide sanitation exercise.

The decision follows an emergency executive virtual meeting held on Please the virtual meeting was held on 8th May, 2026, where the Council urged all Zongo Youth Chiefs in the country’s 16 regions, municipalities, and communities to mobilize residents and spearhead clean-up activities in their respective localities.

Speaking after the meeting, National Chairman of the Council and Board Chairman of the Zongo Development Fund, Alhaji Salisu Maude (Maimartaba Sarki Samarin Ghana), encouraged members to work closely with their Head Chiefs to ensure the success of the exercise.

“Strongly liaise with your Head Chiefs to lead the exercise in your areas. This is part of the work we promised to do for our people, and surely Allah will reward us for doing this,” he said.

Alhaji Maude also expressed sympathy to families affected by the recent floods across parts of Ghana, offering prayers for strength, healing, and recovery.

“We are with you. We pray to Allah to restore what was lost, bring comfort to the broken-hearted, and open doors for relief.”

The National Coordinator, Alhaji Mandela Dalailu, urged all participating Youth Chiefs to document their activities with photographs and brief reports.

“We want everyone who participates to take pictures and prepare a short report to share on the Council’s platform and with media houses to showcase the work of Zongo youth.”

The Council’s General Secretary, Umojabwe Amb Hajj Abdul Samad Said Ibn Chamba, who also serves as the National Youth Chief of the Chamba Ethnic Group of Ghana, described the exercise as both a civic responsibility and a reflection of the Council’s mission.

He encouraged all residents of Zongo communities to support the initiative and adopt proper sanitation habits.

“This is part of our civic responsibility and the core objectives of the Council. We advise all our Zongo people to come out for this important exercise declared by our President. Let us also make it a habit to keep our surroundings clean. Stop dumping refuse in drains. Let us keep our Zongo clean, as the Holy Quran says: Annazaafa Minal Eimaan – Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

The National Council of Zongo Youth Chiefs reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sanitation, peace, and responsible citizenship in Zongo communities across Ghana.
