The President of Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Frederick Otu, has been appointed Chairman of the Development Committee of the Africa Taekwondo Union (AFTU) for the 2026–2028 term.
The appointment is a significant recognition of Mr. Otu’s dedication and contribution to the growth and development of taekwondo in Ghana and across the African continent. His elevation to the continental role reflects the confidence reposed in his leadership, experience, and commitment to advancing the sport.
As Chairman of the Development Committee, Mr. Otu will be responsible for spearheading initiatives aimed at strengthening taekwondo development programmes across Africa, promoting grassroots participation, supporting capacity-building efforts, and enhancing opportunities for athletes, coaches, and officials throughout the continent.
His appointment comes at a time when African taekwondo continues to experience growth, with increased focus on talent identification, athlete development, and the expansion of the sport in emerging nations.
The new role also positions Ghana to play a more influential part in shaping the future of taekwondo in Africa, while providing an opportunity for the country to contribute to strategic policies and development programmes under the Africa Taekwondo Union.
Mr. Otu’s appointment has been welcomed by members of the taekwondo fraternity, who view it as a testament to Ghana’s growing reputation within the continental sporting landscape.
As he assumes office for the 2026–2028 term, expectations are high that his leadership will help drive sustainable growth, foster greater collaboration among member nations, and support the Africa Taekwondo Union’s vision of expanding the reach and impact of taekwondo across the continent.
