Data from the Bank of Ghana’s September 2026 Summary of Economic and Financial Data show that the value of mobile money transactions increased from GH¢354.1 billion in August 2025 to GH¢518.8 billion in August 2026 — an increase of about 46.5% year-on-year.
The August 2026 figure was also higher than the GH¢509.4 billion recorded in July, indicating continued growth in the value of transactions processed through mobile money platforms.
Transaction Volumes Remain Substantial
The Bank of Ghana recorded 1.046 billion mobile money transactions in August 2026, up from 969 million transactions in July.
Growing User Base and Agent Network
The expansion in transaction values comes alongside a growing mobile money user base.
As of August 2026, Ghana had 85.8 million registered mobile money accounts, while active accounts stood at 26.4 million.
The number of active mobile money agents also increased to 594,000 in August, from 550,000 in July, strengthening the network through which customers can access mobile financial services.
Meanwhile, the balance on mobile money float stood at GH¢39.8 billion in August 2026, compared with GH¢39 billion the previous month.
Scale of Digital Payments
The latest figures underline the scale of mobile money activity in Ghana, as digital channels continue to facilitate payments and transfers for individuals and businesses.
The Bank of Ghana notes that active mobile money accounts refer to accounts that transacted at least once in the 90 days before reporting, while active agents are those who transacted at least once in the 30 days before reporting.
