Minister of State in charge of Climate Change and Sustainability, Hon. Seidu Issifu, has visited the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project Phase II (GPSNP2) cashew project site at Nabdam in the Upper East Region as part of his ongoing tour of Northern Ghana aimed at advancing climate action, strengthening resilience and promoting sustainable development.
The visit formed part of the Minister’s engagements with communities and key stakeholders to encourage the integration of climate change considerations into local development planning and implementation.
During the visit, Hon. Seidu Issifu was briefed on the progress of the GPSNP2 project and interacted with project officials, implementing partners and community members. He praised the initiative for its positive impact on improving livelihoods through cashew production while highlighting the importance of ensuring that development interventions also safeguard the environment and enhance communities’ resilience to the growing effects of climate change.
The Minister stressed that Ghana’s climate and sustainable development goals can only be achieved through strong collaboration among government institutions, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), traditional authorities, development partners and local communities.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to mainstreaming climate change into local development initiatives, noting that resilience to climate change must become a key pillar of planning and investment at the district level.
According to Hon. Seidu Issifu, projects such as the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project Phase II demonstrate how sustainable agricultural interventions can create jobs, improve incomes and strengthen food security while helping communities adapt to changing climatic conditions.
The Minister’s visit to the GPSNP2 cashew project underscores Government’s commitment to supporting climate-resilient development initiatives that protect the environment, improve livelihoods and empower vulnerable communities across Ghana.
