Ghana Football Association Executive Council member and proud son of Ahafo Ano South East, Frederick Acheampong, has publicly criticized the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Mohammed Yakubu, over comments the lawmaker allegedly made to a young schoolgirl during an educational visit to Parliament.

In a statement shared on social media, Acheampong said he had watched a video in which the MP was seen telling the schoolgirl that he would marry her in the future. He described the remarks as “deeply disappointing, concerning and painfully regressive.”

According to Acheampong, public officials have a moral responsibility to inspire children through leadership, education, hard work, and public service rather than making comments that could be interpreted as normalizing future marital arrangements involving minors.

He argued that such remarks risk sending the wrong message to young people by shifting attention away from their education, ambitions, and personal development.

“As a Member of Parliament, he ought to have known that he carries the moral responsibility of serving as a beacon of progress,” Acheampong stated. “Children look to leadership to see what is possible through education, dedication, and public service.”

Acheampong further stressed that the people of Ahafo Ano South East deserve leaders who prioritize investments in quality education, scholarships, skills development, libraries, and child protection initiatives instead of reinforcing what he described as outdated societal norms.

He maintained that children should be encouraged to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential without being burdened by premature adult expectations.

Concluding his statement, Acheampong called on public office holders to exercise greater caution in their public remarks, especially when addressing children, emphasizing that leaders should serve as role models who inspire hope, protect young people, and create opportunities for brighter futures.
