Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, joined the National General Cleaning Exercise, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to promoting environmental sanitation and public safety.
The nationwide exercise brought together government officials, security agencies, community members and volunteers to clean public spaces, desilt gutters and clear refuse in an effort to improve sanitation across the country.

Speaking during the exercise, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor stressed that building a clean Ghana requires more than periodic clean-up campaigns, noting that cleanliness must become a daily habit and a shared responsibility among all citizens.
“A clean Ghana is built when cleanliness becomes a daily habit and a shared responsibility. Let us carry this spirit beyond every exercise and make it part of how we live,” she said.
She explained that clean and well-maintained communities not only promote good health but also contribute significantly to public security by improving visibility, reducing hidden spaces that could harbour criminal activities, and creating safer neighbourhoods for residents.

The CID Director-General further urged Ghanaians to work together in sustaining the gains made through the exercise by keeping their surroundings clean and remaining vigilant in their communities.
“Together, with a shared purpose, let us keep our surroundings clean, stay alert, look out for one another, and continue building a cleaner, safer and stronger Ghana,” she added.
The National General Cleaning Exercise forms part of the government’s renewed efforts to improve environmental sanitation, reduce the risk of disease outbreaks and encourage active citizen participation in maintaining cleaner communities across the country.
