Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has praised the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and staff of the Ministry of Finance for their dedication to implementing reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and advancing the Government’s Reset Agenda.
The commendation came during her working visit to the Ministry of Finance as part of a broader tour of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The initiative is intended to strengthen coordination between the Presidency and public institutions, assess progress on key government priorities, and better understand the challenges facing various state institutions.

During the meeting, officials from the Ministry briefed the Vice President on Ghana’s fiscal outlook and the reforms being implemented to stabilise the economy. Discussions focused on the difficult fiscal conditions inherited by the Government and the measures being undertaken to improve the country’s economic performance.
The Ministry also highlighted significant progress in Ghana’s debt restructuring programme, including the successful repayment of Eurobond obligations and other major debt commitments. Officials noted that preparations are underway to meet upcoming debt servicing obligations while maintaining fiscal discipline. Management further reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the fiscal deficit over the medium term and placing the economy on a sustainable growth path.

The Vice President was also updated on several key policy reforms and achievements, including amendments to the Public Financial Management and Public Procurement Acts, the enactment of the Value for Money Act, enhanced domestic revenue mobilisation, the restructuring of COCOBOD, and increased funding for flagship government initiatives such as the Big Push infrastructure programme and the Women’s Development Bank.
Addressing management and staff, Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, and the entire Ministry for their professionalism, commitment and hard work in implementing reforms that are beginning to deliver positive economic results.
She stressed that the Ministry’s decisions have a direct impact on the lives and livelihoods of Ghanaians, underscoring the need for prudent, transparent and accountable public financial management. While acknowledging that a significant portion of national resources continues to be allocated to debt servicing, she reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to sustaining its reform agenda, promoting value addition, and strengthening sound budgeting practices.

The Vice President concluded by expressing her appreciation to all Ministry staff—from management and technical officers to support personnel—for their invaluable contributions toward the Government’s vision of building a stronger, more resilient and prosperous Ghana.
