Tema Oil Refinery has announced the arrival of approximately one million barrels of Bonga Crude Oil aboard the MT Cap Felix as part of its refinery revitalization and crude processing programme.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the refinery disclosed that the crude cargo was purchased from Shell and supplied through TOR’s tolling partner, Triangle Commodities Trading, under an arrangement aimed at supporting the refinery’s operational recovery and ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products to the Ghanaian market.
According to TOR, the arrival of the Bonga Crude marks another important milestone in efforts to restore stable refining operations, strengthen Ghana’s energy security, and reduce dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
Bonga Crude is widely recognised for its high-quality low-sulphur properties and favourable refining yields. The refinery expects the crude to produce significant volumes of premium petroleum products, including LPG, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine kerosene (ATK), and fuel oil for both domestic consumption and regional markets.
Management of TOR expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, regulatory institutions, financial partners, and stakeholders for their continued support towards the refinery’s operational resurgence.
The refinery also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and the long-term transformation of TOR into a competitive and commercially sustainable energy hub for Ghana and the West African sub-region.
TOR noted that it will continue to engage stakeholders and keep the public informed as operations progress.
