A major boost to healthcare delivery in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency is underway following the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a modern Emergency Block at the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital.
The event, led by Member of Parliament Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, brought together key stakeholders in the health sector and local governance, including Medical Superintendent Dr. David Kwabena Okoh, Municipal Health Director Dr. (Mrs.) Jennifer Mintah Andoh, Presiding Member Hon. Wilfred Blankson, assembly members, hospital staff, and residents.
The new Emergency Block project is designed to significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to respond to urgent medical cases. When completed, the facility will feature a 25-bed male ward and a 25-bed female ward, alongside modern washroom facilities to ensure patient comfort and hygiene. It will also include a recovery ward, consulting rooms, a records unit, and a fully stocked pharmacy.
To further enhance service delivery, the project will house a state-of-the-art laboratory, a cash collection point aimed at improving administrative efficiency, dedicated office spaces, and rest areas for doctors and nurses. The comprehensive nature of the facility underscores a strong commitment to delivering efficient and quality emergency healthcare services to residents.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Shaib emphasized that the project marks a significant milestone in addressing the growing healthcare needs of the constituency. He reiterated his dedication to supporting initiatives that strengthen health infrastructure and improve the wellbeing of the people.
In addition, the MP used the occasion to call on the Honourable Minister for Health to commission the completed 120-bed Children’s Specialist Hospital in the area. The facility, described as the largest of its kind in Ghana and constructed under the leadership of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is expected to play a crucial role in advancing pediatric healthcare services in Weija-Gbawe and surrounding communities.
The construction of the Emergency Block, coupled with the anticipated commissioning of the Children’s Specialist Hospital, signals a new chapter in healthcare development within the municipality, one that promises improved access, enhanced service delivery, and better health outcomes for residents.
