Sony WF-10XM4: Headphones Are Our Absolute Favorite

These earbuds have been consistently praised as some of the best in their class, making them a favorite for good reason. Here’s a breakdown of what makes them so highly regarded.

🏆 The Highlights

The Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds are celebrated for features that deliver a premium listening experience.

• 🔥 Class-Leading Noise Cancellation: The earbuds feature Sony’s Integrated Processor V1, which provides some of the best active noise cancellation available in true wireless earbuds . Users frequently describe it as “impressive” and capable of making the world “disappear” .

• 🎵 Exceptional Sound Quality: They support High-Resolution Audio Wireless via the LDAC codec, which transmits more data for a richer, more detailed sound . The sound is often described as “crystal clear” with a powerful, deep, and well-controlled bass .

• 🔋 Long Battery Life: You can get up to 8 hours of playback with noise cancelling on and up to 12 hours with it off . The charging case provides additional charges for a total of 24 hours of listening time .

• 🎧 Smart Features: The earbuds come with a suite of smart functions like Speak-to-Chat, which automatically pauses your music when you start talking, and Adaptive Sound Control, which adjusts the ambient sound settings based on your location and activity .

⚠️ What to Watch Out For

Despite the praise, there are a few consistent points of criticism that are worth noting.

• Comfort and Fit: The earbuds use polyurethane foam ear tips that provide an excellent seal for noise isolation, but some users find them uncomfortable for long periods or note they can feel insecure during intense activities like running . Getting the right seal is also critical for the sound quality and bass response .

• Battery Longevity Concerns: A significant number of users have reported issues with uneven battery drain after about 1.5 to 2 years of use, which is a documented issue with this model .

• No Multipoint Connection: The earbuds do not support Bluetooth multipoint, meaning you cannot connect them to two devices simultaneously and seamlessly switch between them .

• Call Quality: While they have features to enhance call clarity, some reviews mention that the microphone quality can make your voice sound metallic or unclear to the person on the other end .

💡 Is It the Right Choice for You?

The Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds are an excellent choice if your top priorities are supreme sound quality and best-in-class noise cancellation. However, you might want to consider other options if you:

• Have smaller ears or plan to use them for running and other intense physical activities.

• Need to connect to multiple devices at once (e.g., a laptop and a phone).

• Are concerned about the potential for battery issues in the long term.
