At the heart of the discussions was the growing concern over textile waste, environmental degradation, and the urgent need for stronger systems that promote accountability, sustainability, and the protection of livelihoods within the textile and fashion industry.

The summit served as a platform for stakeholders to examine practical solutions to challenges associated with secondhand clothing trade, waste management, recycling, and sustainable production practices. Participants emphasized the importance of building a transparent and traceable trade system that benefits communities while safeguarding the environment.

Delivering remarks at the summit, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, who also serves as Board Chair of the Landfills2Landmarks Summit, highlighted the need for collective action in addressing the environmental impact of textile waste.

She underscored the importance of creating systems that ensure accountability across the supply chain while supporting traders and workers whose livelihoods depend on the textile industry. According to her, sustainability can only be achieved when governments, private sector players, development institutions, and local communities work together toward shared goals.
