The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has taken another significant step in its mission to develop the sport at the grassroots level with a successful rugby introduction and ball presentation ceremony at the Teshie Southern Cluster of Schools in Accra.
Led by GRFU President Madam Rafatu Inusah, the delegation, which included Coach Erick Sowah, Kadija Adams, Iddi Suleiman, and other members of the Ghana Rugby team, paid a courtesy visit to the school to introduce rugby to students and showcase the many opportunities the sport offers young people.
The visit formed part of Ghana Rugby’s nationwide schools development programme, aimed at making rugby more accessible to children while identifying and nurturing talented boys and girls who have the potential to represent Ghana at various age-group national teams.
During the engagement, students were introduced to the values that define rugby—teamwork, discipline, respect, resilience, and leadership. The excitement among the pupils was evident as they interacted with the delegation, learned about the game, and received rugby balls that will help them begin their journey in the sport.
Speaking during the visit, the Ghana Rugby Football Union reaffirmed its commitment to expanding rugby across schools and communities, believing that grassroots development remains the foundation for producing future national stars and strengthening the sport in Ghana.
The Union also expressed its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Henrietta Agbenu-Gasuthe, SISO of the Teshie Southern Cluster, whose support made the programme a success. Special recognition was also given to the teachers and students for their warm reception, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace rugby as a new sporting opportunity.
The initiative highlights the GRFU’s vision of creating opportunities for young people through sport while building a sustainable pathway from the classroom to the national team.
