The Rugby Rising Play Greater Accra Festival made a remarkable impact on April 1, as it was successfully held in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality, bringing together more than 350 girls in a vibrant celebration of sport, education, and empowerment.
The initiative was centered on using rugby as a tool to develop young girls, instilling confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the field. Through engaging activities, participants were introduced to the values of the sport while building life skills essential for their future.
A key highlight of the festival was the educational component on reproductive and menstrual health. These sessions were expertly delivered by Public Health Nurse Victoria N. Mensah and Stella Odoom of the Gbawe Health Centre, equipping the girls with vital knowledge on personal health, hygiene, and informed decision-making.
On the field, the rugby training session was led by Rachel Ankomah, with support from Samira Mensah and Moses Agbenu. Their guidance provided participants with an exciting and practical introduction to the game, further igniting interest in rugby among the young girls.
The success of the event was strengthened by the support of key stakeholders, including Municipal Sports Director Matilda Clottey, as well as dedicated teachers such as Dankyi Ernest Owusu, Isiffu Musah, Suleman Baba, Michael Bansar, and Teddy Pokoo, reflecting strong institutional and community backing.
Special appreciation was extended to all partners, sponsors, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the festival. Notably, Coach Collin was commended for his generous donation of kits and equipment to participating schools.
