Thousands of Ghanaians battling life-threatening illnesses have received a major boost after the Presidency donated GH¢6,102,737.80 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
The contribution fulfills a pledge made by President John Dramani Mahama and staff of the Presidency to support the Fund, which provides financial assistance to people suffering from serious non-communicable diseases and other critical health conditions.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Presidency, Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, described the donation as a demonstration of national solidarity and a commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable citizens.
Beyond the financial value, the donation is expected to bring relief to many families struggling with the high cost of specialist medical care. For countless patients, treatment expenses have often meant draining savings, selling property, or relying on public support to access life-saving healthcare.
The funds will help support patients in need of chemotherapy, dialysis, major surgeries, and other essential medical interventions, offering renewed hope to those facing some of the country’s most challenging health conditions.
Receiving the donation, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, expressed gratitude to the Presidency for what she described as a powerful show of leadership and compassion. She noted that the contribution would significantly strengthen the Fund’s ability to assist patients and families in need.
Nana Oye Bampoe Addo also called on individuals, businesses, and institutions across the country to contribute to the Fund, stressing that supporting citizens facing serious health challenges should be a collective national responsibility.
The impact of the donation, she noted, will go far beyond the figures on the cheque. It will be reflected in lives saved, treatments made possible, and families given a renewed chance at hope and recovery.
With this contribution, the Presidency has set an example of collective responsibility, while encouraging all Ghanaians to join the effort to ensure that no one is denied critical healthcare because of financial constraints.
