JUST IN: The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, over an alleged death threat against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo.
Ayitey Powers, 46, was arrested on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is alleged to have issued the threat.
The police say the former boxer is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into the matter.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the police said the arrest followed the circulation of the video on social media.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged threat remain under investigation as police work to establish the full facts of the case.
