Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has emphasized that the country’s young population needs more than motivation what they truly require are sustainable job opportunities.
Speaking at the Kwahu Business Forum, he highlighted the growing challenge of youth unemployment and called for a strategic shift in Ghana’s economic direction. According to him, while inspiration plays a role, it cannot replace the need for real economic pathways that provide employment, productivity, and dignity for young people.
Debrah stressed that manufacturing should be at the centre of Ghana’s development agenda, describing it as the most effective way to create jobs at scale. He explained that a strong manufacturing sector not only generates employment within factories but also across multiple value chains, including agriculture, logistics, marketing, and technology.
He further noted that focusing on industrial growth would strengthen local supply chains, boost exports, and reduce reliance on raw commodity exports, ultimately leading to a more stable and inclusive economy.
His remarks form part of a broader national conversation on transforming Ghana’s economy and positioning it as a manufacturing hub in West Africa.
