The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor has reaffirmed government’s commitment to revitalising the country’s upstream petroleum industry following a high-level strategic meeting with key sector players.
The meeting brought together major institutions, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Petroleum Commission, the Office of the Attorney-General, and the Ministry of Finance, to align priorities and fine-tune a coordinated work plan for the sector.
Describing the engagement as “insightful and forward-looking,” the Minister noted that discussions centred on strengthening Ghana’s upstream petroleum framework, improving the fiscal and regulatory environment, and ensuring sustainable growth across the industry.
A major concern highlighted during the meeting was the decline in petroleum reserves, prompting renewed focus on attracting investment into exploration and production activities.
“We had a strategic meeting with key upstream petroleum stakeholders to align on our shared priorities and refine our work plan for the period ahead,” Hon. Jinapor stated.
“Our discussions focused on strengthening Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector, enhancing the fiscal and regulatory regime, and driving sustainable growth across the industry.”
He stressed that increasing investor confidence remains critical to reversing declining reserves and unlocking new opportunities within the sector.
“A key area of focus is attracting the needed investment to address declining reserves by boosting exploration and production activities,” he added.
Hon. Jinapor expressed optimism that the collaborative approach adopted by stakeholders would yield tangible results, positioning Ghana’s petroleum industry on a more resilient and progressive path.
“I am confident that the outcomes of this engagement will translate into impactful actions as we continue to build a more resilient and progressive upstream petroleum landscape,” he concluded.
The meeting marks a renewed push by government to strengthen coordination among regulatory and operational institutions, as Ghana seeks to maximise value from its natural resources while transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future.
