The National Film Authority (NFA) has officially inaugurated Mawuko Afadzinu as Chairperson of the newly established Film Development Fund Management Committee, a key body tasked with overseeing the management and disbursement of the government’s GH¢20 million Film Development Fund.
The committee is expected to play a crucial role in revitalising Ghana’s film industry by providing financial support for filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors, and other stakeholders across the creative sector.
The committee was inaugurated during the official launch of the Film Development Fund at Silverbird Cinemas, Accra Mall, on May 20, 2026. The fund, backed by an initial seed capital of GH¢20 million, is designed to address longstanding financing challenges within Ghana’s film ecosystem and create sustainable opportunities for growth, job creation, and global visibility for Ghanaian stories.
Serving alongside Mawuko Afadzinu is Kafui Danku-Pitcher, who assumes the role of Executive Secretary of the committee. Other members include Samuel D. Clarkson Acheampong, George Bosompim, Selassie Ibrahim, Michael Owusu-Ansah, Augustine Abbey, Gyasiwa Ansah, and Kofi Adinkra.
Speaking at the launch, Kafui Danku described the Film Development Fund as one of the most significant institutional interventions in Ghana’s film industry, noting that it will help filmmakers and creative entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses, expand audiences, and increase the international reach of Ghanaian content. She further stressed that the newly inaugurated committee will ensure transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the administration of the fund.
The establishment of the Film Development Fund Management Committee marks a major milestone in the efforts of the NFA to strengthen the country’s creative economy, improve access to financing, support film production and distribution, enhance cinema infrastructure, and position Ghana as a leading force in Africa’s growing film industry.
